CMR Controls makes air pressure and sensor flows used in
hospital operating theatres and medical labs so controlling Health
& Safety is important.
“Our policies have to be the same as those of the large
pharmaceutical companies that we work with,” says MD Clemens
Richter.
The Basildon-based engineering company has 20 staff but no
full-time Health & Safety Officer. Instead, over the last four
years, Mentor has visited the premises to do compliance audits and
provide training.

‘It’s invaluable,” says Clemens, “for keeping up to date with the
latest changes to European and UK legislation.”
Within the company, Health & Safety is the responsibility of
Virginia Taylor, PA to Clemens, who is a big fan of Mentor. “They

Tony, has a background in industry and understands our
business.”
A recent health and safety audit questioned CMR’s environmental
policies. Virginia consulted Tony at Mercer. ‘I rang Tony for
advice. If I ring the Health & Safety Executive they’ll tell me
‘this applies and that applies’ which is great, but I don’t get
help to implement it.”
Consulting the Bank is the obvious thing to do.
“The Bank looks after our business account – Mentor is
simply another service they can provide,’ says Virginia.
Mercer consultant Tony Gardner’s industrial background helps him
to identify with CMR’s working environment. “We don’t overload our
clients with unnecessary information,” he says. “We only tell them
what they need to know, saving them time and money.”
Tony helped CMR with an accreditation for a prestigious client
contract and with the help of Mentor’s forms and systems, the
company won the contract.
