SEPA fines man for storing waste
A businessman in Fife was fined £2,750 for storing waste without
a waste management licence. The Defendant had come before the same
court on a previous, similar charge regarding the failure to comply
with a notice ordering him to remove waste from his site near
Saline. Further visits by SEPA officials showed no improvements on
the situation.
A SEPA investigating officer said: "SEPA officers had been
trying to work with the defendant in the months leading up to the
issuing of the notice. SEPA always tries to work with business and
industry to protect the environment but will take steps against
those who refuse to do so. This case would have been avoided if the
defendant had removed the waste within the required
timescales."
