Environmental Update (March 2009)
Environmental Permitting Programme Second Phase (EPP2)
Businesses and other interested parties are invited to express
their views on the second phase of the Environmental Permitting
Programme (EPP2). The consultation opened on the 16th of February
and closes on the 11th of May 2009.
The EPP is a joint initiative between the Environment Agency,
DEFRA, the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the Welsh
Assembly Government in their drive to deliver 'better regulation';
it applies to businesses in England and Wales.
The first phase of the consultation saw the amalgamation of the
waste management licensing and pollution prevention and control
regimes into a single permitting system. The second phase will now
introduce proposals to extend environmental permitting to other
regimes as part of the Environment Agency's aim to create a single
approach to applying for and issuing all permits.
The second phase will include consideration for applying a
single permitting system to: water discharge consents, groundwater
authorisations and Radioactive Substances Regulations permits.
