Environmental Update (December 2009)
Hazardous waste limits increased in Wales
In Wales, you can now produce up to 500kg (increased from 200kg)
of hazardous waste in any 12-month period without
registering with the Environment Agency. The changes were
introduced in The Hazardous Waste (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations
2009 and bring Wales in line with England. Businesses must continue
to follow strict rules on how to store and dispose of hazardous
waste regardless of how much they produce.
Even if you are exempt from registering, you must still use a
consignment note to accompany hazardous waste as well as using a
registered (or exempt) waste carrier.
