Businesses benefit from flood awareness campaign
A campaign designed to educate Scottish businesses about
flooding has been launched today, 30 November, by the Scottish
Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
SEPA's Floodline Awareness Campaign aims to provide direct
information and education to businesses that may be at risk of
coastal or river flooding. Business owners need to be aware of how
flooding could affect them and what action they can take to protect
themselves.
The first stage of the campaign will see letters and leaflets
posted to business owners across Scotland to remind people of the
damage flooding can do to a property.
Floodline, the 24-hour flood warning and information service,
can also provide 'flood maps' to concerned business owners, which
show whether their area is at risk.
SEPA's Director of Science and Strategy, Professor James Curran,
said, “Significant Scottish Government investment has also allowed
SEPA to make major improvements to its flood forecasting and
warning capabilities.
“From late March 2011 SEPA will be able to send flood risk
messages free of charge directly to registered phones, giving even
more valuable notice of potential flooding. Watch out for more
details on how to sign-up early next year,” he added.
