CLP Regulation
The Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Chemicals
Regulation (CLP) came into force in January 2009. The first
transition period ended on 1st December 2010. The aim is
to have the same classification and labelling for chemicals
worldwide. Currently, a substance can be a carcinogen or toxic in
one country but not in another.
Over time businesses will see a change to hazard labelling and
safety data sheets. Businesses may see 2 sets of hazard information
about any single chemical substance used in the workplace. COSHH
assessments may need to be revisited as the classification of the
chemical may have changed.
