Private schools urged not to fret royal wedding celebration
regulations
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reassured private
schools that are organising events to celebrate the wedding of
Prince William and Kate Middleton not to let perceived health and
safety limitations quell their fun.
The body has issued guidance to businesses seeking to mark the
event, to make sure that the public occasion does not put anyone at
risk. It has emphasised, however, that there are many myths
circulating about crisis management and safety issues surrounding
organising parties, and that schools and other places where
celebrations are likely to take place should not let them bog them
down.
The organisation said that there were very few obligatory rules
companies had to follow for the event and that with sufficient
forward planning and a dose of common sense celebrations could be
made into easily enjoyable events.
"If there's a genuine issue, ask what you can do to put it right
... mostly there's an easy way to make sure everyone has fun while
staying safe," the HSE wrote in its guidelines.
The HSE said that forward planning was particularly important as
schools as it would give them time to sort out any necessary
insurance issues. It also advised anyone who is told that an event
cannot go ahead on health and safety grounds to fully challenge and
seek justification for the reasoning behind it.
