Environmental FAQ
Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste)
Regulations
Do I include second-hand pallets on the data form as part of
my obligation?
No. Pallets which are reused are not included; however bought
recycled pallets which have been used for the first time (i.e.
reprocessed) are obligated, as they are essentially new pallets
entering the system.
What are my obligations if I reuse the packaging several
times?
You are only required to fulfil your obligations on the
packaging on its first trip, not on any subsequent reuse. It is
therefore important to keep records of all the new packaging you
purchase.
Do I have to collect data on packaging I receive as an end
user or consumer?
No (unless you import the packaging). The regulations are based
upon the packaging you handle and supply - not on end-use packaging
(known as ‘backdoor’ waste).
Companies are also not obligated for new packaging they buy
(with the intention of supplying to the next stage) which becomes
waste on their site.
