Eye Tests

I have a number of employees who use Visual Display Units (VDUs) such as computer screens. Do I have to send them all for an eye test?

As an employer, you're obliged to make available to employees who habitually use display screen equipment as a significant part of their normal work, eye and eyesight tests on request. Such testing should only be carried out by a competent person, in this case an ophthalmic optician. If there is a requirement to provide eyesight corrective appliances for VDU use, as advised by the ophthalmic optician, the cost of such equipment must be met by the Company, so far as is reasonable. Following the first eye test, the ophthalmic optician will stipulate how often further testing is required.
