What has changed?

We’ve updated your employee handbook and template employment contracts to reflect best practice, ensuring legal compliance with upcoming legislation changes and providing greater clarity. The changes related to flexible working, paternity leave, and carer’s leave take effect from 6th April 2024 (we are expecting the date for more flexible working changes to be confirmed soon). Additional options for irregular hour workers and rolled up holiday pay

We have also created additional holiday entitlement contract clauses for employers who employ irregular hour workers or plan to operate rolled up holiday pay. Please check if the following options are applicable to your business.

  • Additional contract wording for holiday accrual for employees who work irregular hours.
  • Additional contract wording for rolled up holiday pay for employees who work irregular hours.

Next steps

  1. Consider whether you need to add any of the additional options and if so, please contact us as soon as possible.

  2. Notify your employees of the changes and replace your existing employee handbook on any shared drives or reprint if you keep a paper copy. Please ensure your employees have access to the updated version and know where to find this. You can access the following template letter in MentorDocs: Confirmation of employee handbook updates - April 2024 (MentorDocs > Employment Law & HR > Terms and conditions > Updated terms).

  3. Access and download your updated documentation and employment contracts - go to the MentorDigital dashboard and select CompanyDocs.

Please note - there is no requirement to re-issue contracts of employment to existing employees who have signed an older version. However, for new employees, please ensure they are issued with the latest employment contract.

Template forms added to MentorDocs

The following templates and forms have been added to MentorDocs (Employment Law & HR > Terms and conditions > Contract terms) to enable regular updates:

  • Training cost agreement
  • Deduction from pay agreement - example template
  • 48-hour opt-out agreement
  • Sunday working in shops and betting shops - statement of statutory right
  • Confirming amendment to contract

These forms will no longer be updated in CompanyDocs. Please ensure you refer to the latest version in MentorDocs when using any of the forms listed above.
