Latest EU campaign promotes healthy workplaces

The European Commission and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has announced the launch of a two-year Europe-wide campaign focusing on promoting sustainable work and workplace safety.

Developed in cooperation with the Netherlands EU Presidency, the Healthy Workplaces for All Ages campaign has been created to promote healthy work in context of an ageing workforce, with an aim to promote the importance of catering for the needs of the continent's future workplaces.

The four main objectives of the campaign include the promotion of healthy ageing from the beginning of the working life, highlighting the importance of risk prevention, assisting employers and workers with information and tools for managing health and safety, and facilitating information and good practice exchange.

According to promotors, workplaces that specifically address the changes in health faced by an ageing workforce are likely to benefit from increased productivity, boosting both worker and business success.

Commenting ahead of the campaign launch, Commissioner Thyssen highlighted the timeless nature of the plan's goals, stating that they are particularly important for future generations of workers across the European Union.

“At a time when there are important discussions going on about the future landscape of occupational safety and health in the EU, this campaign is extremely relevant," Commissioner Thyssen said.

"We need to start now to cater for the needs of Europe's future workplaces and workers. Workplaces that address the health challenges of an ageing workforce gain in productivity. This is good for workers and good for business.”
